Climate change (A serious threat)
Climate change has become a serious global concern. And it’s attributed to human activities. At the beginning of industrialization, human activities released large-scale atmospheric releases of greenhouse gases by burning fossil fuel, oil, gas, and petroleum to produce energy that has led to dangerous consequences like floods, storms, drought, rise in sea level, heat waves, melting of glaciers, ozone depletion, extinction of species and biodiversity.
As we know, climate change is the major challenge we are facing adverse impacts in recent times.
The Following are some main factors that are causing global warming:
- Greenhouse effect:
Global warming has multiple primary causes, including the greenhouse effect. The sun throws a lot of radiation on the surface of the earth. These gases trap the radiation in the earth’s atmosphere, preventing it from returning. This process keeps the earth’s temperature warmer. This increase in temperature is due to the increase in atmospheric emissions of greenhouse gases. It was noticed at the beginning of industrialization in 1960. every passing decade has been warmer than the previous one. Growth in industries has contributed to wealth and better living. It has also affected the environment and led to changes in climate.
2. Carbon dioxide emissions:
Excessive carbon dioxide emission is another major factor contributing to the rise in global temperature. Scientifically, global warming emerged with an accumulation of CO2 and methane-like gases. Whatever heat the earth absorbs from the sun during the day is released at night. Hence, the average mean temperature of the planet remains the same. But when the emission of CO2 increases mainly due to burning fossil fuels, it acts as a blanket and never allows the heat absorbed during the daytime to go back into the atmosphere. It gets intrepid around the earth’s atmosphere.
3. Deforestation:
Deforestation is also a leading cause of the danger to the environment. We are provided a clean environment by forests, which humans have devastated. In many countries like Kenya, charcoal is the source of income. Despite the ban imposed on deforestation, they are running their business at a profitable rate as usual. Climate experts have stated that deforestation has caused numerous lakes and streams to dry. That depicts how human activities are affecting the environment.
Conclusion:
Climate change is a global concern that significantly affects both our health and the world economy through migration. We can tackle this issue by reducing CO2 emissions and switching towards renewable energy resources to make our earth a better place for our livelihood.
